Recall procedure
Introduction
This procedure states the actions Kanaka Durga Ventures LLP will take to effectively manage a food recall in case the food does not meet the requirements of hygiene, safety and quality, and to protect the health of consumers. An effective product recall ensures that unsafe food, or food that violates the Act and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder, is contained and either destroyed or rendered safe.
We refer to and follow the instructions laid out in:
- Food Safety and Standards (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017
- FSSAI website (www.fssai.gov.in)
- FSSAI Guidelines for Food Recall Plan
Roles and responsibilities
It is the responsibility of Kanaka Durga Ventures LLP to effectively organise and manage the recall of food that presents a threat to public health or violates the Act and Regulations, and to maintain a recall plan as per FSSAI guidelines.
The Recall Co-ordinator for the site is Manik Khullar, who has been given authority by management to make recall decisions on behalf of Kanaka Durga Ventures LLP. When a recall is initiated, our actions will be co-ordinated with the CEO, FSSAI (in case of Central Licence) or the Commissioner of Food Safety of the State/UT (in case of State Licence).
We shall notify the CEO, FSSAI (in case of Central Licence) or the Commissioner of Food Safety of the State/UT (in case of State Licence) as soon as a recall is likely to be initiated. It is our responsibility to manage the recall by clarifying the food safety issue and the exposure (who and where the risk exists), and to provide details of distribution and the method of recall.
Recall management team
The Recall Co-ordinator will initiate the formation of a Recall Management Team and will co-ordinate actions with the food authority and our marketing and distribution agents.

| Manik Khullar | Recall Co-ordinator (Designated Partner) | +91 97185 07060 | +91 97185 07060 | Recall decision, authority liaison |

Duties of the Recall Management Team are to:
- assess the overall problem;
- notify the relevant regulatory authority;
- evaluate the hazard in the food and the extent of contamination;
- determine a strategy to be followed;
- make decisions about product still in manufacture or in storage;
- notify insurers.
Recall actions & documentation
The Recall Management Team shall follow the actions outlined in the FSS (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017 when we become aware that a product may be unsafe or violate the Act and Regulations. Records of all actions and decisions, and of who was responsible, will be recorded and retained.
Decision to recall
The decision to recall will be submitted to the CEO, FSSAI (in case of Central Licence) or the Commissioner of Food Safety of the State/UT (in case of State Licence).
Notification of a product recall
If the decision is taken to initiate a recall, we will notify:
- Senior management of Kanaka Durga Ventures LLP and supply-chain personnel;
- the Food Authority;
- anyone who has received our product, including distributors, wholesalers, retailers and caterers;
- consumers, via media contacts on our contact list, this website and direct communication to customers who purchased online.
Our recall contact list contains details of: the recall committee, senior management and key personnel; suppliers of all ingredients; downstream Food Business Operators and business customers; sources of technical advice and support including laboratory facilities; and regulatory authorities.
Regaining control of affected stock
Recovered product will be stored in an area separated from all other food products. Accurate records will be kept of the amounts recovered and the codes of the product. If recovered product is unfit for human consumption, it will be destroyed or denatured under the supervision of company management and/or the regulatory authority where legally required. If the food safety risk can be safely removed through relabelling or reprocessing, this may be done once it is clear that public health will be protected.
Recall status report
Periodic status reports will be submitted to the CEO, FSSAI after notification of the recall, to assess its progress. The frequency will be determined by the urgency and gravity of the recall as specified by the food authority, but the reporting interval shall not be more than one week. Status reports will contain the information specified under Schedule II of the FSS (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017.
Post-recall report
The Recall Management Team will submit a post-recall report to the CEO, FSSAI after completion of the recall to assess its effectiveness. Kanaka Durga Ventures LLP will investigate the reasons that led to the recall and take action to prevent recurrence.
Termination of a recall
Kanaka Durga Ventures LLP may request termination of the recall by submitting a written request to the CEO, FSSAI along with the latest recall status report stating that the recall was effective. The recall will be terminated when the food authority determines that all reasonable efforts have been made in accordance with the recall strategy, that it is reasonable to assume the recalled product has been removed, and that proper disposition or correction has been made commensurate with the degree of hazard. Written notification of termination will be issued by the Food Authority to the company.
Follow-up action
In case of unsatisfactory reports, the food authority may consider further action such as stepped-up inspection, seizure or other legal action. Kanaka Durga Ventures LLP will submit an interim report as soon as the recall is completed, within an agreed timeframe and in any case not later than thirty days after completion of the recall. The final report will include the elements outlined in the FSS (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017.
